The Orange Show Center for Visionary Art has announced the Houston Art Car Parade’s 2014 Grand Marshall: Houston Mayor Annise Parker. As the Grand Marshall of the parade, Mayor Parker will be front and center in a car decked out as the Houston skyline and accented with several iconic art cars, designed by the Houston Art Car Klub. As the Grand-Marshall-heavy-hitter-crowd-waver, Parker will be honored for her years of dedication to the Houston art community and the strides the city has gained toward becoming a “world-class arts and culture destination.”
“The Houston Art Car Parade captures the essence of Houston’s eclectic and fun culture,” says Mayor Parker. “It is among my favorite events and one of the most unique treasures our great city offers.”
Put another way: “On May 10th, 2014 over 300 JAW-dropping cars, bikes, skaters, and MOTORIZED creatures will roll down Allen Parkway, from Waugh Drive to Bagby, and BLOW the minds of 300,000 spectators.” [emphasis added]
The Houston Art Car Parade is in its 27th year–the world’s largest and oldest parade of this kind.
