Mob Rule in Bordertown: El Paso Museum Members Choice To Select New Chicano Artwork

by Bill Davenport November 15, 2011

This Thursday, members of the El Paso Museum of Art gather for a strange ritual: voting on museum accessions! Every year at their Member’s Chioce event, the self-anointed group reviews a selection of works for possible acquisition, then chooses one to be purchased with museum funds. This year it’s on November 17, from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.- members only! But it’s not to late to join the club- just call Barbara Read at (915) 532-1707 x 64. This year’s art work candidates include four selections of Chicano art, currently on view through Nov. 28, 2011 in the Roderick Gallery’s Retablo Niche.

Last year, the member’s chose Summer, one of four fiberglass bathing beauty pieces by sculptor Carole Feuerman.
