Tiny Park

May 18 through June 22, 2013

Joel Ross and Jason Creps create messages that are psychologically charged, menacing, disorienting and humorous. The messages are then made into signs which are installed and abandoned in parking lots, yards, and alleyways. Once installed, Ross and Creps take large-scale photographs documenting the actions For their exhibition at Tiny Park, they will be exhibiting all three stages of the work; text-based works on paper, sculptural signs, and large-scale photographs.

Seher Shah: Constructed Landscapes

AMOA-Arthouse at The Jones Center

April 6 through June 30, 2013

Pakistani-born, Brooklyn-based artist Seher Shah layers historical references, utopian monuments, ultramodern landscapes, and reductive forms influenced by her background in architecture, at times calling to mind building floor plans and cross-sections seen through a kaleidoscope. The show includes a new sculptural work, Object Repetition (2012). Curated by Rachel Adams of AMOA-Arthouse.

Pinaree Sanpitak: Temporary Insanity

AMOA-Arthouse at The Jones Center

April 20 through June 30, 2013

Prolific Thai artist Pinaree Sanpitak will arrange one hundred pillowy sculptures to create a bright, shimmering field of reds, oranges, and yellows in the Second Floor Gallery. Made of soft Thai silk, these abstracted, organic shapes respond to visitors by gently swaying, rocking, and humming to some mysterious, internal rhythm. Curated by Senior Curator of Public Programs and Community Engagement Andrea Mellard.

Monica Vidal: Falling Hive

Women and Their Work

May 18 through July 3, 2013

Falling Hive is a huge tent-inspired communal space based on a childhood dream that Monica Vidal had of a world saturated in blue. This vivid memory was the inspiration for Falling Hive.

Graham Dolphin: RIP

Lora Reynolds Gallery

May 18 through July 6, 2013

Lora Reynolds announces RIP, an exhibition of new work by Graham Dolphin. This is the artist’s first solo presentation at Lora Reynolds Gallery. The show includes sculpture, graphite drawings, and ink drawings on found newspapers. Each piece in this exhibition explores the absence of a specific, well-loved public figure after he or she has passed away: several musicians, an American politician, and a member of the British Royal Family. The sculptural objects in the show are reproductions of memorials created by fans.

Larry Scholder: Archive

Flatbed Press

May 17 through August 24, 2013

Archive is the retrospective work of Dallas printer Larry Scholder.  Scholder’s work is created using relief or intaglio printmaking techniques. His images seem inspired by the act of mark making. Working within a small format, Scholder’s abstractions are intelligent conversations of line, voids and shapes.
