Lora Reynolds Gallery presents a film screening of Grand Paris Texas by Austin based artists Teresa Hubbard and Alexander Birchler. The screening is held after a conversation between the Director of the Blanton Museum of Art, Ned Rifkin, and the artists. The film explores the history, people and catalysts that have imprinted the small Texas town of Paris. In connection with the film, a selection of Hubbard / Birchler's photographs relating to Grand Paris Texas is on view at Lora Reynolds Gallery September 9-11.

New Works: Okay Mountain is currently on exhibition at the Austin Museum of Art, featuring the Austin-based Okay Mountain's video installation Water, Water Everywhere, So Let's All Have a Drink , a satirical send-up of mass media. The 10-person collective will discuss the inspirations and collaborative process for making their video installation in conversation on September 23 at AMOA. Okay Mountain's exhibition Benefit Plate was recently on view in New York at Freight + Volume and was reviewed in The New York Times and Village Voice.

One of America’s most critically acclaimed writers, Cormac McCarthy is the author of some of the finest novels of our time, including All the Pretty Horses, Blood Meridian, No Country for Old Men, and The Road, for which he won the Pulitzer Prize in 2007. CORMAC McCARTHY: Selections from the Permanent Collection features McCarthy’s literary papers and related materials which are held at Texas State University’s Wittliff Collections. This is the first large-scale public exhibition showcasing the notes, handwritten and typed drafts, unpublished pieces, correspondence, and other items that lend insight into McCarthy’s career and writing process!

Kate Breakey's large-scale, richly hand-colored photographs are now on view in her new exhibition at Texas State University's Wittliff Collections. Painted Light is the first career retrospective of Breakey's work with over 130 selections from nine suites of photographs. The show encompasses a quarter-century of her work, including Small Deaths, her acclaimed portrait series of birds, flowers, animals, and insects. This exhibition is part of FOTOSEPTIEMBRE USA and a second book in the Wittliff’s Southwestern & Mexican Photography Series is available, published October 2010 by UT Press.

The new exhibition at the Austin Museum of Art, From Process to Print: Graphic Works by Romare Bearden, investigates the ways that preeminent American artist, Romare Bearden (1911-1988), mastered the medium of printmaking. Seventy-five prints created over thirty years are on view and the exhibition is organized by Landau Traveling Exhibitions, Los Angeles, with the help of the Romare Bearden Foundation. The works in the exhibition show Bearden’s literary, biblical, mythological, popular culture and western and non-western themes that were informed by his African American cultural experiences.

Discovering the Language of Photography: The Gernsheim Collection draws from the collection of Helmut and Alison Gernsheim. The exhibition features masterpieces from photography’s first 150 years, alongside other images that are integral to the medium’s history. Highlights include the first photograph (on permanent display at the Ransom Center), works by nineteenth-century masters such as Lewis Carroll, Julia Margaret Cameron, and Henry Peach Robinson, and iconic images by modern photographers such as Man Ray, Edward Weston, Robert Capa, and Henri Cartier-Bresson.
