In this discussion, panelists will explore the meanings of the body in the transgender experience. “Moving beyond the often inaccurate and oversimplified trope of “being born in the wrong body,” the speakers will discuss the frequently contested relationships of embodiment to subjectivity, anxiety, and relatedness to others. Moderated by Andrea Perry, Programming Director of the Neill-Cochran House Museum, the event will also feature Dr. Grayson Hunt, Program Coordinator of UT-Austin’s LGBTQ Studies Program, and Eisner Award-nominated author Lilah Sturges. The event is the 2018 installment in Are We Conscious Automata? the museum’s series of philosophical talks inspired by the work of Elisabet Ney’s husband, Edmund Montgomery. It is produced in collaboration with the University of Texas’s LGBTQ Studies Program.”
