One of the most influential artists to emerge from the 1960s Los Angeles art scene, Bell began to explore passing light through glass cubes he vacuum coated with metallic films. In the late 1970s, he started experimenting with metallic films on paper, a process he continues to use today and forms the exhibition’s body of work. In addition, If you can’t make it out to Chinati to see his big show there (on view through July, 2015), go check it out.
