From 1950 to 1980, Houston became the capital of modern art in Texas, attracting a loose-knit colony of painters to a community of galleries, collectors, museums and university art departments. This thirty-year span represents a vital and productive period in the city’s cultural evolution. Artists include: David Adickes, John Biggers, Harvey Bott, Jack Boynton, Bill Condon, Frank Freed, Dorothy Hood, Perry House, Ibsen Espada, Lucas Johnson, Ken Luce, Earl Staley, Richard Stout, Arthur Turner, Dick Wray and others.
