Whitney Biennial artist and Rome Prize winner Franco Mondini-Ruiz transforms his Mexican Great-grandmother’s casita, gardens, aviaries, studios, goat pens, dovecotes, outbuildings and peacocks into an over-the-top visual extravaganza, part PT Barnum, part Warhol, visually celebrating all things San Antonio in a four-day contemporary art happening from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. each day.
Mondini-Ruiz will also celebrate the opening of his new Casa Leal Botanica bursting with thousands of vintage botanical, cultural and mystical objects and his West Side Museum of Antiquities, his Crema white-walled gallery and his “Organic Garden” showcasing sculptures made with centuries old Parisian cathedral pipe organ pipes. Mondini-Ruiz considers this collection his most important and extravagant work up to date.
