Paintings by Emma Richardson Cherry, Houston’s first professional artist. She was a pillar of the Texas art community from the 1890’s until her death in 1954. She exhibited in all of the major venues in Texas and in most of the major shows, including the Texas Centennial Exhibition of 1936. Mrs. Cherry’s work is also the subject of an upcoming exhibition at the Houston Public Library’s Julia Ideson Building February 1-May 2, 2013.
