The Old Jail Art Center showcases an exhibition of work by Ed Blackburn that was created in the last two years in Jumping Across (The River). Blackburn is best known for his paintings depicting movie stills and Bible stories that address the popular “language” found in American media. His Bible stories deal with “the dilemma of the Bible as cultural cliché played against the Bible as searching spiritual force.” The main source of visual imagery for these works derives from newspaper clipped photos or appropriated images from art history books. Participating in the 2011 Texas Biennial.
