Aaron Parazette is one of few painters still actively engaged in pushing forward the trajectory of hard-edge abstraction, color field painting, and minimalism – and we’re lucky enough to have him in Houston. With Cloud Break, McClain Gallery presents a new series of Parazette’s, Color Key paintings, shaped canvases that “investigate the ability of a painting to create space and allude to three dimensions.” As always, Parazette’s paintings engage a bright palette formed in response to a life lived near coastal waters with an analytical attentiveness borne out of an analysis of twentieth century abstraction to create works that hover between a Mediterranean sensibility and an unwavering commitment to critical theory.
