February 25 - April 30, 2011
The University of Houston-Clear Lake celebrates the 30th anniversary of hosting Judy Chicago’s The Dinner Party. In 1980, UHCL was one of the first three venues to debut the monumental feminist artwork, a triangular table presenting a total of 39 place settings, each commemorating an important woman from history. Under the themes of process and collaboration, Setting the Table showcases Chicago’s design-process in which she enlisted hundreds of people over a six-year period to work on the elaborate sculpture, ceramics, china painting, and needlework components for The Dinner Party. Updating these themes, the exhibition opening February 25, 2011 will include the video of Margarita Cabrera’s Space in Between which shows a new form of collaboration involving sewing and embroidery.
