The title- Lecture I: It’s All About Tradition! – is taken from a phrase found on posters displayed in shop windows throughout the neighborhood of SMU. These ubiquitous graphics picture a prominent local high school’s sports teams and their entourage of boosters and cheerleaders. Corris says “There can be no fixed responses, and we must always take responsibility to defining ourselves in the larger culture. If we do not, we risk becoming the courtiers of cultural interests eager to hijack our voice.”
