July 24 - September 26, 2010
The Art Museum of Southeast Texas presents an exhibition of work by George Wentz from July 24 through September 26. In March 2010, the Southeast Texas community lost a beloved friend with the death of this artist, George Wentz. The opening reception takes place on Friday, July 23 to remember Wentz and will include a gallery talk about the artist’s life and work by Andy Coughlan. Forty paintings, drawings, and collages from the 1960s to 2010 are on view in this exhibition titled, Joie de Vivre, derived from a French expression meaning “joy of life or living.” Wentz’s gestural and abstract works are reminiscent of the French post-impressionists and the most recent collection of paintings and drawings was donated to the museum.
