In Waterson’s exhibition, Anatomies, he creates a multi-media installation that recalls the wunderkammer, or cabinet of curiosities. Waterston joins other recent artists in drawing parallels between the random and poetic juxtapositions of objects and ideas that postmodernism has brought back into vogue and the pre-Enlightenment genealogies of science, ethnography and archaeology. Waterston does his part to lay siege on the monolith of Enlightenment-based Modernism by creating a personal universe of meaning from biological specimens, new paintings, works on paper and sculpture.
