Cecil Touchon addresses the concept of beauty in historical terms in his exhibition of new paintings and works on paper at William Campbell Contemporary. Ascribing to a long-view perception of the history of aesthetics, Touchon mines Modernist "isms" such as Synthetic Cubism, Constructivism, and the Fluxus movement and recontextualizes the aesthetic qualities of these various movements for a contemporary audience. Viewing himself as "part of the clean up crew of the twentieth century," Touchon reexamines artistic concepts and ideas that were once considered strange, radical and abject in light of their current status as a part of what he calls the "New Beautiful."
