John Wilcox’s simple word drawings like "our", "sake" and "tender" are made with obsessive marks of graphite and watercolor on paper. His paintings in acrylic and oil compliment the drawings and contain small marks that have been heavily built up on the surface of the canvas. Wilcox created the work in this exhibition in New York City from 1988 to 1989 in the midst of the intense concern and activism concerning the AIDS epidemic. This is the first public viewing of many of the pieces that are now on view at Barry Whistler Gallery.
