Richard Orton: The Upshaws of County Line
February 7 - 28, 2009
329 East Main Street, Nacogdoches, TX 75961
In celebration of Black History Month, the SFA art galleries are presenting new work by Orton, a Nacogdoches native. County Line, an African American community west of Nacogdoches, Texas, began as a Freeedmen’s Community in the late 1870s. Norton began visiting and photographing the community in the late 1980s. He recently donated 30 photographs to the East Texas Research Center at SFA’s Steen Library.
