Adios Claes

So the big Dallas Museum of Art scuttlebutt is that they’ve gotten rid of the Claes Oldenberg Stake Hitch, which was commissioned for the new building in 1983, and which extends from the gallery upstairs into the basement. Word has it the upcoming Sigmar Polke show at the DMA will involve big canvases that need the space (and that Polke would, ahem, not want to share it), and that various interests in the museum have been trying to get rid of the thing for some time. Apparently the expense of the storage is worth it, as the Stake Hitch will reappear “within the decade.” We, for one, will mourn it.
