GenerousArt.org announces new project through RocketHub to grow business, expand to other cities
AUSTIN - GenerousArt.org – an online art gallery dedicated to donating 40% of sales to local nonprofits, while simultaneously giving 40% to local artists – today announces the launch of its newest project “Be Generous, Buy Art”, a campaign through RocketHub created to enable the community to further support and empower the Generous Art mission by raising funds to grow the business and expand to other cities. The campaign, which lasts through Sunday, August 12th, has a goal of $35,000.
GenerousArt.org, created by art futurist Jennifer Chenoweth, was launched in June 2011 with a unique business model that was molded to help sustain both artists and nonprofits. Not only does it aid artists who have inventory for sale, but it also provides nonprofits with a necessary tool for fundraising. The e-commerce site, which features one-of-a-kind original works of art made by Austin artists, allows for the purchase of art to be a community transaction. Through this newest fundraising project, Generous Art can be viewed as a community investment as well. Donors will receive various different rewards for their contributions per price point, such as limited edition T-shirts to original drawings by a Generous Art artist and live studio art lessons to a party for 100 hosted at Fisterra Studios.
As of June 2012, Generous Art has raised over $6,000 for local nonprofits and sent another $6,000 to artists. In order to continue steady growth, Generous Art is seeking investors and help from the community to not only support artist and charities around the country, but to create jobs within the business as well. Beginning July 4, 2012, The CROWDFUND Act will expand the donation options of crowdfunding sites by allowing entrepreneurs and community members to invest up to $1 million annually. Those who seek to aid businesses through these sites, such as RocketHub, now have the option to invest in the companies they are supporting, with potential return on investment. The SEC regulations regarding crowdfunding investments and non-accredited investors will not be set until January 2013, but crowdfunding from accredited investors whose net worth (excluding their primary residence) is over $1 million, will be able to invest as of July 4, 2012.
Since it’s inception, Generous Art has grown to represent 35 professional artists and 47 nonprofits. In addition, the online gallery has partnered with businesses and nonprofits to host live events – producing or participating in 16 events this past year – including the first annual Generous Art group show hosted by the Gensler design firm in Austin, Texas, as well as various studio sales for Generous Art artists.
ABOUT GENEROUS ART
Founded in 2011, Generous Art is an online gallery dedicated to raising money for nonprofits and artists. It envisions art purchases as community-oriented transactions — rejecting the idea that art collection is a selfish endeavor or an isolated event. Generous Art replaces time- consuming auction fundraisers with a purchase process that simultaneously funds the artist, a nonprofit and the mission of Generous Art. When a site visitor purchases art, he or she may select a nonprofit organization to support from a list of beneficiaries or supply an alternate nonprofit. The retail price is divided among the nonprofit (40%), donating artist (40%), and Generous Art (20%).
