TSTC Geek Art Contest
What happens when art meets computer hardware?
Geek Art sculptures are formed!
The Arts and Computer Divisions of TSTC West Texas have partnered with The Center for Contemporary Arts and The Grace Museum to bring a unique contest to the Abilene area.

While the genre of Geek Art is growing, the contest will focus on repurposing computer hardware into sculpture. For some examples of Geek Art sculptures, visit Gabriel Dishaw's site (his sculptures are complex - we recognize you just have 3 days! These are just to provide an idea of the concept).
Here’s what you need to know:
Registration:
Starts July 11, 2012, at 8 a.m.
Ends July 24, 2012, at noon
Electronic registration only (see below)
Time available to work on your creation:
When: July 24 - 26, 2012, 6-9 p.m.
Where: TSTC Abilene campus, Room 400 (Computer Lab)
The TSTC Computer Lab will be open to contest participants from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each day of the competition. All the work on the sculptures must be completed onsite, and only during these times.
Rules:
You must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
The finished project must be suitable for public display.
The finished project must not be larger than 3’x3’x3’.
Participants must furnish their own tools, fasteners, and/or adhesives (See “Acceptable Tool List” below.).
Every item of personal property must be clearly labeled.
Adhesives must be low-fume.
Participants may bring their own electronic components, but they cannot be electrically charged.
No power tools are allowed in the construction or fabrication of the artwork.

Judging to be held July 27, at noon. The following are the Award Categories:

The winning creations will be unveiled on August 9, 2012, at 6:30p.m. at The Center for Contemporary Arts. The artwork will be on display at The Center for Contemporary Arts through the month of August. Artwork may be priced while on display at The Center for Contemporary Arts, and can be sold after the contest winners are announced.
Two $250 scholarships to TSTC will be awarded, as well two $25 gift certificates to Best Buy.
Note: Participants need to sign two forms before their creation can be considered: the Liability Waiver and an Image and Video Use waiver. If you do not sign these forms, you will be not be allowed to participate in the competition.
