DiverseWorks Internships
Due to DiverseWorks’s small staff, interns play a critical role in the administration and production of DiverseWorks’s overall programs and events. Interns at DiverseWorks engage in a variety of aspects of the daily operations of a non-profit arts organization and gain invaluable experience while being introduced to a vast network of art professionals. An internship at DiverseWorks can provide a foundation in a variety of skills, experience, and contacts for a future career as a curator, artist or arts administrator.
Daily duties include:
Assist with artist research for upcoming programs and events
Assist with promotional and marketing tasks
Update database and contact lists
Prepare membership and donor mailings
Assist with the creation of promotional materials for public programs
Assist with the set-up and tear down of public events and performances
Assist DiverseWorks staff with general administration office duties
Special projects:
Organize print and press archive
Develop individual donor database
Research for upcoming DiverseWorks projects
Research funding opportunities
Prospective interns should meet the following qualifications:
• Strong background in art history, theater, dance, or literary and a devoted interest in contemporary art, issues, and visual culture
• Attention to detail and strong organizational, writing, and computer skills are required
• Creative thinker
• Experience with or interest in programming and curating
• Ability to work some evenings and weekends for events
• Fluency in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Basic understanding of the web, use of web services and low-level web technologies
• Knowledge of Houston visual, performing, and literary art scene a plus
Requirements:
Two days a week for a minimum of three months is required and availability for occasional evening programming. Academic credit is also possible. Interns are invited to participate in DW's programs and events, such as DiverseWorks On Wednesdays and Diverse Discourse.
