W.A.A.S. Gallery Group Show Submission
WAAS Gallery invites artists to submit works of art to be considered for our first juried group show opening on Friday, November 16, 2012 and closing Saturday, December 15, 2012. We seek works of any medium that respond to, or engage the WAAS mission statement below. A group of artists will be selected for exhibition, and from those selected participants, one artist will be awarded a cash prize of $500. WAAS Gallery is a fast-rising space that enchants enthusiasts and collectors. We are looking for local and not-so-local artists to let shine. A $20 submission fee will apply to all applicants. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES and PROCESS:
Electronic submissions are due on Sunday, September 9, 2012.
IMAGES & FEE:
Electronic submissions of three to five images, and an artist bio/cv, and statement should be sent to submissions@waasgallery.com. Larger files will be accepted via post (postmarked by Saturday, September 8, 2012 and sent to WAAS Gallery ATTN: Brandy Adams 2722 Logan Street Dallas, TX 75215). Mailed materials will not be returned. Please do not send images via third-party websites like yousentit, or droxbox. Click here to pay $20 entrance fee, or log on to the website submissions page.
SELECTION:
The selection process entails an initial round of studio visits, and an exhibition list will be constructed from those artists. All artists asked to participate in the exhibition will be eligible to win the WAAS Gallery Juried Exhibition Prize. Selected artists will be contacted within one week of their submission to schedule a studio visit, and will be notified by Thursday, October 11 of their participation status. WAAS will ask that work be delivered to the gallery on Friday, November 2.
Keeping with our mission, all work will be offered for purchase, and WAAS will charge a standard fifty percent commission. All artists are required to produce a COA, or sign a bill of sale. All objects will remain on exhibition until the closing date, Saturday, December 15, 2012.
JURY AND PRIZE:
A $500 prize will be awarded to one artist. While the artists to be included in the exhibition will be selected by the curator, a panel of judges consisting of significant local arts professionals, alongside WAAS Gallery owner, Brandy Adams, will determine the prize-winner.
GUEST CURATOR:
Aja Martin is an emerging independent curator and researcher who participates in the Dallas art community through contemporary curatorial projects and scholarly writing on altered environments and site-specific work in the US and Latin America. As of late, Aja has held appointments or collaborated with the Nasher Sculpture Center, La Reunion TX, Meadows Forum for Art and Urban Engagement, and served on various committees and boards in both the non-profit and academic arts community in Dallas. Aja has presented her academic research locally and nationally, and has worked in museums, galleries and academia for over ten years. She holds a Masters degree in Art History from Southern Methodist University, 2011.
