Only One Month Left!
These summer days may be long, but time is short! There's only one month left to enter to win Gulf Coast's 2012 Barthelme Prize for Short Prose, judged by Ander Monson.
The Barthelme Prize for Short Prose is open to prose poetry, flash fiction, or micro-essays of 500 words or fewer. Established in 2008, the contest awards its winner $1,000 and publication in the journal. Two honorable mentions will also appear in issue 25.2, due out in April 2013. All entries will be considered for paid publication on our website and all entrants receive a free one-year subscription to Gulf Coast. The September 1st deadline is coming up quickly, so click here for how to enter.
Last year's winners, selected by Sarah Manguso, are available on our website: Erica Olsen for "Grand Canyon II," Sonja Vitow for "Master Bedroom," and Paul Zaic for "Why I Became a Fireman."
Please also check out the 2010 winner, Lillian-Yvonne Bertram's "Animals Do Not Commit Delusional Acts," selected by Joe Bonomo.
