Museum of Printing History Gala Announced: Dr. O.H. "Bud" Frazier - Honoree; Douglas Brinkley - Keynote Speaker

Museum of Printing History Gala Announced

The Museum of Printing History is very pleased to announce the upcoming Annual Gala on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at the Houston Country Club. This year’s honoree is Dr. O.H. “Bud” Frazier, Director, Cardiovascular Surgery Research at Texas Heart Institute. While he is internationally known for his invention of the valve which allows humans to live with no pulse, and was featured on the cover of the March 2012 Issue of Popular Science for his work, what is not as widely known is that Dr. Frazier is a collector of fine antiquarian books, and is committed to the Museum’s mission of preserving the printed word. This year’s Gala promises to be a very special event, with John Beddow, publisher of Houston Business Journal, and Russ Capper, of The Business Makers Radio Show, once again serving as Masters of Ceremony. Douglas Brinkley, who recently released his book Cronkite, will be the Keynote Speaker. Anna Holliday, Honorary Vice Consul of Denmark serves as Gala Chair.

Through permanent exhibits, the Museum of Printing History narrates the story of written communication and the ways in which the technologies of printing have transformed our lives. Over a 30 year history, the collection of historical documents, fine art prints, and antique printing equipment has grown extensively, and the Museum has developed a wide variety of educational programs on the arts of the book. In addition, the Museum presents twelve new exhibitions each year that explore the work of internationally-known artists and highlight the creativity of Houston artists and organizations. Over 25,000 people visit the Museum annually, about half of whom are youth under age 18.

With the continued proliferation of digital technology and the resulting decline in print publishing, the Museum’s mission to preserve the history of printed communications for future generations continues to be more relevant today than ever before. As one of only four museums in the nation devoted to the history of printing, the Museum of Printing History’s programming plays an essential role in Houston's cultural landscape, with offerings that are unique to our city, the state, and the region.
