Call for Entries- Third Coast National Exhibition, Christine Rees, Juror

The Third Coast National is a non-thematic, juried exhibition of new works of art from all across the USA. We are simply looking for innovative, interesting contemporary artwork. Now in its 6th year, The Third Coast National marks the anniversary of the opening of K Space Contemporary’s ground level space on Starr Street in downtown Corpus Christi, Texas. This exhibition has proven to be one of the most popular exhibitions in Corpus Christi and one of the artistic highlights of the year.

Juror: Christina Rees, curator of Moudy Gallery and Forth Worth Contemporary Arts at Texas Christian University. Ms. Rees, a native of Irving, Texas, has worked as a writer, editor, columnist and critic in the fields of visual art, film and music and has most recently been owner-director of Road Agent, a contemporary art gallery in Dallas. She is a self professed art lover and pot-stirrer.
Christina Rees describes her career thusly –
I was a full-time columnist at Dallas Observer, covering art back when print journalism was a major player, worked as an editor at D Magazine, wrote Rock and Art criticism for the Village Voice in NYC, and lived in London and New York.

In May of 2009 I began one of three polemical "State of the Union" pieces for Glasstire (at the onset of the recession), which led to a series of major round-table discussions hosted by Howard Rachofsky across the DFW area and included all major collectors, media, museums, universities, galleries and artists about how to improve the local scene. I continue to write for Glasstire when I get a chance and usually stir up shit with my writing.

I also have an ongoing independent curatorial partnership with Thomas Feulmer (curator of education for the Rachofsky collection) called Modern Ruin; our first show was in an abandoned Wamu Bank building and was profiled nationally on Marketplace on NPR (interviewed by Kai Ryssdal).

I have served as director of Angstrom Gallery, Dallas and owned and directed Road Agent, Dallas (awesome controversial commercial space), and am a founding member of CADD (Contemporary Art Dealers of Dallas). I currently live in both Dallas and Fort Worth (weird but true).

FWCA, my current space, has recently exhibited work by Rachel Whiteread, Mel Bochner, Liam Gillick, Eggleston. Baldessari, Jim Hodges, Andy Warhol, Douglas Gordon, Rinike Dijkstra, Richard Serra, and Angus Fairhurst.

Richard Patterson, my husband, is a YBA (Young British Artists) and shows with James Cohan in NYC and Timothy Taylor in London, has work in the permanent collections of the Tate, the Denver Art Museum, the San Francisco Art Museum, and the Flagg Foundation.
