Director of Admission and Recruitment


The Southwest School of Art (SSA) in San Antonio, TX, invites applications and nomination for the position of Director of Admission and Recruitment. Long known for its stellar community and youth programming, SSA will begin a BFA program in Art in fall 2013.

The Director of Admission and Recruitment

 identifies and develops long term goals and strategic plans for maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of the BFA recruitment and admission process

 develops and implements policies, procedures, and programs which enhance undergraduate admissions, recruitment, and yield

 implements outreach and recruitment efforts and the achievement of campus enrollment goals

 oversees the admission process with the faculty admission committee

 develops, monitors and analyzes management reports to enhance recruitment strategies, yield objectives, forecasting accuracy and operational efficiency

 participates in the development of promotional material related to the BFA

 works with the President, the Director of Finance, and the Dean to develop an effective scholarship program

 represents SSA at recruitment events on and off campus including national portfolio days, college fairs and high schools

 speaks publicly to groups on and off campus

 counsels prospective students and families regarding the admissions process and the opportunities and advantages that SSA presents

 oversees implementation of various recruitment and admission related events and activities.

Applicants must have an advanced degree in an art field and a minimum of three years’ experience in higher education admissions and recruitment. Successful candidates must also demonstrate experience managing multiple concurrent responsibilities; experience conceptualizing and implementing admissions, recruitment, evaluation, technical, and yield activities; experience with budget projections, resource management, report preparation, and presentations; ability to work well with a broad array of stakeholders including faculty, administrators, staff, students, families, as well as the Office of the President, volunteers, and the general public; effective interpersonal, public speaking, and writing skills; proven skills in statistics, quantitative analysis, assessment, and evaluation, and proficiency with procedural and policy analysis; knowledge of educational policy as it pertains to admissions, recruitment, and enrollment; sensitivity to educational issues affecting underrepresented students and families; ability to work autonomously and make independent decisions.
