Full-time Art Faculty-Printmaking
Houston Community College is seeking to fill a full-time teaching position in Art at Central College in Printmaking.
We are seeking a dynamic individual to teach Printmaking I and II courses, which include a variety of procedures which may include woodcut, linocut, silkscreen, etching, monotype, and plate lithography. Teaching will require up to eighteen contact hours per week. In addition, the position will involve management of the 1600+ sq. ft. printmaking studio, maintain equipment, order supplies, maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for printmaking.
The studio includes:
• New Conrad etching press with 60” x 36” bed
• Electric Griffin litho press with 44” x 28” bed
• 2 Master etch presses with 36” x 24” beds
• Amergraf 150 screen exposure system, 48 x 36 capability
• Norup Raderpresse series 978 with 65 x 35 cm carriage
• Separate acid room
• Exposure dark area
• Targeted ventilation
Houston Community College is the fourth largest community college in the country, serving over 75,000 students each year. Central College is located in the fine arts corridor of Houston within minutes of major museums and galleries that provide excellent teaching opportunities for our faculty. Houston has a vibrant arts scene, has several galleries specifically dedicated to prints, and is home to the Museum of Printing History.
Qualifications: One of the following is required, from an accredited institution: 1) Masters degree with both 18 graduate hours in Studio Art and 18 graduate hours in Art History; OR 2) MFA in Studio Art. MFA in Printmaking preferred. Knowledge of relief, etching, silkscreen, and monotype processes required. Prior teaching experience at the college level is preferred. Creating cross-over processes with digital arts and/or photography areas preferred.
This a nine-month position for the first year, with choice of 9 or 10.5 month position thereafter. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
