The Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation is a private operating foundation established in 1961 to encourage and assist education and to improve and enrich the quality of life in Southeast Texas. The Stark Foundation seeks to continue the legacy of its founders through the programs of: The Stark Museum of Art, The W.H. Stark House, Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, and Frances Ann Lutcher Theater for the Performing Arts, as well as the Miriam Lutcher Stark Contest in Reading and Declamation, a qualified scholarship program for public high school students in Orange County, Texas. Programming is designed to create, and
build upon, an appreciation within the community for the fine arts, Stark family history, the performing arts, environmental stewardship, and public speaking. These venues, programs and activities provide the community and region with rich resources and opportunities for study and enjoyment of the arts, history and nature.
Summary of Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for managing, coordinating, scheduling, and growing the volunteer program for the three Stark Art & History Venues: the Stark Museum of Art, The W.H. Stark House, and the E.R. Library & Archive. In addition the A & H Volunteer & Operations Coordinator assists with guest relation activities
at both the Stark Museum of Art and The W.H. Stark House including as back up House Tour Host, assists with general administrative duties including communications and logistics for designated meetings, and assists with other Stark Art & History Venue programs and activities as needed. The position is full-time and work week is Tuesday through Saturday, with occasional evening hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
For Volunteer Program:
-Utilizing framework and collaborate with staff to establish a formal A & H Venue Volunteer Program.
In collaboration with key staff, identify volunteer opportunities to further the Stark A & H Venue purposes and Stark Foundation mission.
-In conjunction with staff supervisors, refine and/or develop job descriptions for volunteers.
-Based on organizational needs, recruit new volunteers.
-Interview prospective volunteers and coordinate with staff to match individuals’ skill sets and interest with volunteer positions and opportunities; process volunteer applications.
-Schedule selected volunteers to insure that appropriate designated volunteer positions are covered each day.
-Orient, train, observe, and evaluate volunteers along with direct supervisors.
-Develop continuing education activities for volunteers and mentor and coach volunteers as needed.
-Track and report volunteer hours, paperwork, and activities.
-Motivate, recognize, and thank volunteers to insure they understand that they are valued contributors to the success of the organization.
-Maintain the volunteer handbooks and recommend updates as necessary.
For General Operations:
-In concert with key staff including security officers, coordinate the guest welcome, orientation, and evaluation experience at the Art & History Venues.
-Serve as back up tour host for open days/events and assist with front-of-the house walk-in visitor experiences.
-Assist Director, A & H Venues with general administrative and operations duties including, but not limited to, communications and logistics for designated meetings and programs, budget tracking, office supplies order, and business machinery maintenance.
-Assist with other Stark Art & History Venue programs and activities as needed
Bachelor’s degree in related field such as education, history, art, humanities is preferred.
Experience & Skills:
•Experience in developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating volunteer services including recruitment, training, placement, and retention.
•Experience with general administrative activities
•Ability to work with diverse groups of individuals.
•Must be a team player able to work comfortably and effectively with cross-functional teams.
•Demonstrated leadership, ability to work independently and as part of a team.
•Highly organized and able to set priorities
•Patient with proven and exceptional people skills
•Proven ability to develop and make presentations within the community and at the A & H Venues.
•Excellent public speaking skills necessary.
•Strong writing skills
•Flexible and able to adjust to changing priorities
•Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
