Outreach Programs intern
The Outreach Programs Internship is a collaborative, hands-on position that requires strong writing, research and communication skills, resourcefulness, and ability to multitask in a small nonprofit environment. The intern is responsible for identifying and selecting Community Partners (nonprofit organizations, Dallas parks and recreation centers, ect.) and organizing a workshop for Taking it to the Streets. Taking it to the Streets is a week-long workshop bringing 20 young artists, age 13-16 to Dallas Contemporary. The program is designed for summer or after school programs to connect students to contemporary art. It is an outreach program that is held both off-site and on-site.
◊ Identify potential Community Partners via Internet research, networking, email, phone conversations and on-site visits.
◊ Communicate Taking It To The Streets opportunities, benefits and obligations to prospective community organizations
◊ Develop strategies for program evaluation through teacher surveys, online materials, etc.
◊ Collaborating with Community Partners to organize a weeklong workshop, coordinate day-to-day activities, and lead gallery tours.
◊ Candidates should have excellent organization skills and attention to detail, willingness to take initiative.
◊ Art or education major looking for programming experience in a nonprofit setting.
◊ Prior experience with coordinating programs and workshops at any level is desirable, but not required.
◊ Knowledge of contemporary art and/or experience working in a museum setting is desirable.
Dallas Contemporary is a non-collecting art museum presenting new and challenging exhibitions from regional, national and international artists. The institution is committed to engaging the public through exhibitions, lectures, educational programs and events. Recently relocated in a repurposed industrial building at 161 Glass Street in the Design District, Dallas Contemporary is a unique art space with a rotating schedule of dynamic exhibitions.
Hours: Approximately 15 hours a week
