Laura Rathe Fine Art (LRFA), a leading contemporary art gallery in the Dallas Design District, is seeking a full-time Associate Director. Prospective candidate must meet the following education and experience requirements:

• Bachelors or Masters Degree in the Arts &/or Business from an accredited university
• 2-3 years in an art related profession or field is preferred

The ideal candidate should also be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and an outgoing team player. They must be highly organized and have a strong ability to multi-task and easily shift from interfacing with clients to administrative tasks. A large part of the job is to support the management and sales team.

In addition to the tasks listed below, the prospective candidate will possess exemplary verbal and written communication skills in order to greet visitors, answer questions and field sales inquiries. A background in art history is preferred, as well as some knowledge of the commercial art world.

Because the Director and Associate Director represent the ‘faces’ of the gallery, the Associate Director must be personable and knowledgeable about LRFA artists and exhibitions, and have the ability to remember names and faces. It is also crucial to promote current and upcoming exhibitions and ensure that visitors do not damage works in the gallery.

Daily Operations
• Open and close gallery to the public; tour visitors through exhibition spaces
• Manage voice and e-mail correspondence, communicate regularly with artists, designers, and clients
• Enter and maintain gallery contacts and new patrons in email database (MailChimp) and VIP & direct mailing lists (Microsoft Excel)
• Manage direct mail and email marketing campaigns
• Write and manage the circulation of gallery press releases
• Manage gallery and event advertising (print and online),
• Train and supervise gallery intern(s)
• Maintain gallery’s social media presence (Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
• Order supplies, oversee technology upgrades, and gallery maintenance
• Help coordinate prospective and scheduled special events in which the gallery has been rented out to patrons and organizations

Registration and Sales
• Enter and maintain gallery inventory on cloud-based database and website (Exhibit-e / galleryManager)
• Perform inventories and generate reports, including works available, works on view, etc.
• Maintain careful storage/presentation of artworks
• Administer correct labels and pricing for all artworks on display in the gallery and in storage
• Track arrival and departure of artworks to/from the gallery, including shipment to off-site events and consignment locations
• Update gallery website (exhibit-E), including works available, artist bios, and press
• Create client presentations, and renderings (Adobe Photoshop required)
• Assist the Director with managing client inquiries, prospective leads, and off-site appointments/installations, including potential art fairs
• Facilitate the sale, shipment, and delivery of exhibited artworks, maintain client hard files
• Generate, copy, and file invoices, purchase orders, loan forms, consignment agreements, bills, contracts, statements, certificates of authenticity, and other gallery documents as needed (electronic and hardcopy).

• Liaison between artists and assist the Director with the curation and planning of all gallery exhibitions. LRFA Dallas presents a new exhibition approximately every six weeks.
• Research artists for future exhibition and gallery representation
• Collaborate with director to schedule and plan gallery exhibitions
• Select artworks, manage checklists, and generate wall and pedestal artwork tags
• Help oversee shipment, delivery, unpacking, and installation of exhibited artworks
• Help organize and attend all gallery opening receptions, art walks, VIP dinners, and other exhibition related events
• Direct and pay contract help and vendors, e.g. catering, rentals, bartenders, photographers, and installers

Create, Curate, Collect Lecture Series
• Help plan and execute lecture series featuring key figures from the art world
• Prepare introductions, talking points, and questions for moderators upon request
• Manage event logistics, live streaming on Facebook and Instagram, furniture and AV needs


The ideal candidate should be proficient in the following software and computer programs:

• Art handling experience a plus
• Mac O SX El Capitan
• Microsoft Word
• Microsoft Excel
• galleryManager (or comparable art gallery inventory/collection management software experience)
• Exhibit-E Web Systems (or comparable website management experience)
• Dropbox
• Printer & Scanner Software. Experience with NeatDesk a plus.
• Adobe Photoshop required and some graphic design experience preferred
• MailChimp (or other web-based mailing list management experience preferred)

LRFA now operates out of two locations in Houston and a third gallery in Dallas on Dragon Street, the city’s premiere arts district destination.
