Sterling Municipal Library is seeking artwork proposals for a mural to be created on the exterior brick wall of our public library building. Proposed works should have strong visual impact and should be accessible and appropriate for the general public. The goal of the call is to provide public art that is of interest to citizens and visitors, and that:
Conveys a piece of Baytown history; or represents the unique flavor of Baytown; or represents the library’s role in the community to encourage reading, learning, and the sharing of stories.
Criteria & Guidelines:
•Applications should be submitted by Friday, November 3, 2017 at 5pm and
can be delivered in person to Sterling Municipal Library to the attention of Jamie Eustace or
emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
• Artists are encouraged to visit the library site prior to applying. However, a photo and
dimensions of the wall are included here.
•The completed mural will be up to 100 feet in length and 20 feet tall. We will accept
proposals for murals with smaller dimensions.
• Submissions should include color sketches of the proposed image, roughly done to scale.
•Artist selection will be complete by November 17, 2017 and the selected artist must
commit to complete the project by February 16, 2018.
• Chosen projects will be visible for as long as Sterling Municipal Library and the City of
•Applications must include a complete estimation of costs, including site preparation, material, labor, rental of specialized equipment or scaffolding, travel, and artist fees.
•The mural will be painted directly on the exterior brick and must be created with weather
