Creative Action is a nationally-recognized youth arts education nonprofit organization in Austin, Texas. Our team of professional teaching artists inspire youth to be creative artists, critical thinkers, confident leaders, and courageous allies in their community.
WHO WE WANT:
We seek enthusiastic, creative and collaborative Teaching Artists to join our after school team! Teaching Artists are responsible for creating and leading arts-based after school classes and will work with students to develop a culminating project or performance at the end of the program. Candidates must have general availability 2:00 - 6:30 PM Monday-Friday and experience in at least one of the following: theatre, dance, visual art, creative drama, puppetry, music, film, digital media, photography, spoken word, creative writing or theatre-in-education. Experience facilitating an artistic discipline and/or working with elementary-age youth preferred. Bilingual (Spanish/English) applicants and people of color are strongly encouraged to apply. To be hired, applicants will need to complete required background clearances and have current CPR/First Aid certification prior to August 7th.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Facilitate engaging, arts-based after school classes and culminating project
Generate arts-based curricula and submit lesson plans on a regular basis
Establish a positive and inclusive classroom culture
Assist with other after school program responsibilities such as snack and homework help
Attend training on Fridays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Maintain consistent and timely communication
Support assessment and evaluation efforts
Our after school programs serve PreK to middle-school aged youth, primarily in the Austin and Del Valle school districts as well as various charter schools and community sites. Programs begin as early as the first day of school and run through the end of the school year. Summer teaching in full- and half-day camps may be available. This is a part-time position, approximately 10 - 30 hours per week. The pay rate is determined based on your qualifications and experience; the starting rate is $15.50 per hour.
Additional requirements include:
Completion of all required pre-service orientation and training starting the first week of August
Fingerprinting clearance in compliance with district and licensing policies
Reliable transportation to your assigned campus(es)
Some evening or weekend hours may be required
We are accepting applications until July 19th for programs starting in early August and July 26th for programs starting in late August.. Qualified candidates will be invited to attend an application workshop will receive an email with further details. Candidates will be asked to complete paperwork in preparation of a background check in order to be eligible for a position.
