2017 EXHIBITION IN MOTION CALL FOR ENTRIES
UNMASKED: CONCEAL AND REVEAL

A call for wearable objects that conceal and reveal on the runway!

Accepting drawings and design concepts as well as images of completed pieces. You DO NOT have to have your piece completed to enter!

It’s a classic occurrence on the runway. The model walks to one end and does something as simple as taking a layer off, such as a jacket, or as complicated as untying a few holds and showing something completely new and unexpected.

For 2017’s Exhibition in Motion we are looking for large-scale wearable pieces that incorporate an element of transformation. The wearer must be able to perform the transformation on the runway with little to no assistance and be as smooth as possible. Pieces can be singular or segments can be removed and left at a drop off point along the runway. Transformations must be as smooth as possible.

EiM 2016 4Building on the success of 2016, we are looking for large-scale work that will stand out on the runway – think in feet not inches!

Partners, small groups and class proposals are encouraged.

SNAG membership is required to participate. For groups of two or more, at least one of the group members needs to be a SNAG member.

The 2017 Exhibition in Motion takes place on May 27th at the SNAG conference “Nexus” in New Orleans. The event will be extended to include a cocktail reception and heavy hors d’oeuvres, and music, followed by a dance party. After the runway presentation there will be an opportunity for the audience to interact with the work on the models and meet the artists who created the pieces. A print brochure and online exhibition will accompany the event.

All artists or at least one member of a collaboration is highly encouraged to be present to show how the piece works and to talk about their work post-presentation. If a member of the group is not able to attend transportation/shipping of the object is at the expense of the maker and detailed instructions on how to operate the piece must be included.

Participating makers will receive a free ticket to the event (up to a max of two free) with an option of purchasing discounted tickets for groups larger than two.

Cost to enter is $25 to submit up to three designs. Photos or concept drawings need to be included with the submission. SNAG membership is required to participate. For groups of two or more, at least one of the group members needs to be a SNAG member. Membership needs to be current through the date of the presentation, May 27th, 2017.

Entries will be chosen by February 3rd, 2017. Items need to be delivered to the Sheraton New Orleans by May 24th if shipping, or drop off May 27th during published drop off times. SNAG will not be responsible for any shipping costs to/from New Orleans. A pre-paid shipping return label MUST be included with all shipped items as well as specific operation instructions on how the piece transforms. SNAG will not purchase new shipping items to re-ship the pieces, so please be sure to pack your piece carefully with reusable packing materials and boxes.
