Screen Printing Artist Educators Needed in Austin
ARTIST EDUCATORS NEEDED!
Mexic-Arte Museum is currently seeking Artist Educators to teach screen printing-based art outreach classes. For the past 27 years, Mexic-Arte Museum, the Official Mexican and Mexican-American Fine Art Museum of Texas, has been offering high-quality art education programs to young people throughout the Austin community. Mexic-Arte Museum\'s art outreach programs are based upon Museum exhibitions but are held in schools and community centers, making them more accessible to students. Classes vary in length from one to two hours, and usually take place after school, Monday through Friday. During-school positions may also be available to exceptionally qualified and experienced candidates. Payment is per class sessions, which are usually held on a weekly basis. Note: this is not a full time opportunity.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Artist Educator works closely with Mexic-Arte Museum staff to teach Museum art curriculum in Austin area schools and community centers. The Artist Educator functions as a liaison between the Museum and the community. As such, it is very important that candidates be professional and articulate individuals. Artist Educators are responsible for ensuring a high-quality creative experience for students, for maintaining a safe and organized classroom, and for bringing enthusiasm and talent into the classroom. Though lesson plans and activities are provided by Mexic-Arte Museum, Artist Educators must prepare for classes by reading these lesson plans thoroughly, and by working on projects independently prior to classes.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for this position has an undergraduate or graduate degree in studio art and is actively pursuing a career in the arts. Must be experienced teaching art to students ages 10 through 17, and have a passion for working with young people. Though this is a compensated position, those with a strong interest in working with underserved youth will find the highest job satisfaction. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated knowledge of design, screen printing, and Mexican art and culture. Program documentation is essential; candidates must be organized, responsible, and punctual.
