Zeteo Worship Gathering

Zeteo is a radically inclusive worship gathering for anyone seeking to love God and love what God loves. Everyone is welcome, regardless of age, race, religious background, gender identity or sexual orientation. Pastor Michael Dunn of First Christian Church says “Zeteo is an attempt to provide an expression of Christian spirituality for people who for many reasons don't like church. Either because they have been burned by narrow and exclusive experiences or because it simply hasn't made a whole lot of sense.”

Zeteo is the Greek verb “to seek.” As such, Zeteo takes seriously its mission to seek God and the Realm of God. Through the use of ancient and modern Christian practices such as art, prayer, silence, meditation, and dialogue, Zeteo desires to build a supportive visionary community. Ultimately, Zeteo seeks to be partners in God’s creative passion for this world; a world of justice, peace and love. Family Minister, Jenni Martin Fairbanks, believes that “Zeteo is an expression of community where people can know the beauty of deep connectedness with others and with the Spirit and mystery of God. Zeteo seeks to find the Divine in ordinary and every day culture, incorporating music and the arts where seeking people, as Irish theologian Peter Rollins says, ‘will find their liturgical hearts.’”

Inclusive… All too often, people have been subject to discrimination, prejudice, and oppression by others claiming to speak for God or with the Bible. Regardless of age, race, religious background, gender identity or sexual orientation, all are welcome to join and participate fully in the life and practices of the community. This inclusivity is often described as being “open & affirming.”

Transformative… Zeteo desires to be a community for people experiencing the personal transformation that comes with encountering God’s inclusive love that inspires and transforms people, neighborhoods, our city and ultimately, our world.

Visionary… Many historians, philosophers and theologians believe the next great transformation in Christianity is taking place now. Phyllis Tickle, author of The Great Emergence, believes that many churches are becoming revitalized by adopting new methods and returning to Jesus’ basic message of loving God and people. Zeteo is a gathering committed to exploring Christianity in the post-modern culture and context by re-envisioning the spiritual practices used throughout Christian history and incorporating aspects of popular culture that often times unknowingly illustrate the redemptive story of God’s love.

Zeteo worship gatherings will be held the 2nd Sunday of each month beginning November 13th at 6:30 pm at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) located at 1601 Sunset Blvd. / Houston, Texas 77005. Equal Exchange Coffee will be served, and “It’s A Wrap” food truck will be on hand for Zeteo’s first service to provide food for post-service fellowship. Child care will be provided. Zeteo will also meet at various times throughout the month to discuss, socialize and serve.
