Special Class! Crystalline Glazes with Artist John Tilton
"It is important that students understand that a workshop is a workshop - it's a place to learn some new techniques, meet some good people, and fire a few pots. It's a place to have fun and to be intensely involved in a particular subject for a few days. Students are encouraged not to expect masterpieces?" In this workshop, you'll be introduced to the fascinating world of crystalline glazes. Students are asked to bring in four small, bisque fired porcelain forms (no bowls please) which are taller than they are wide, with pedestals and saucers that fit the bottom of the pieces for the running of the glaze. These pieces will be glazed with a selection of two glossy crystalline glazes and fired on the first and second nights of the workshop. Pieces will be examined on the second and third day of the workshop to review and understand the information of the crystals. Please see SSA website for a required list of materials and tools, and a recommended reading list.
