Are you passionate about the arts? Do you want to learn more about contemporary craft? Are you looking for ways to give back to the Houston community? Want to build your skills and resume towards a future career in the museum world? Volunteering at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft may be for you!
Houston Center for Contemporary Craft (HCCC) is a nonprofit arts organization in the heart of Houston's Museum district. Founded to advance education about the process, product and history of craft, HCCC's major emphasis is on objects of art made primarily from craft materials: clay, fiber, glass, metal, wood, and found or recycled materials. HCCC offers a unique experience to visitors; in addition to several exhibition spaces, visitors also explore the craft garden and interact with resident artists at work in their studios. Guided tours and craft making activities help visitors of all ages learn about the process, product, and history of craft.
HCCC Volunteers assist with the following:
- Lead exhibition tours (30-60 minutes, age dependent)
- Staff special events such as exhibition opening receptions and family activity days
- Planting and upkeep of HCCC’s Craft Garden
- Assisting with administrative duties
- Gallery attendants
- Occasional project specific internships available for credit
