Back-to-school is right around the corner, and the Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) invites children and their families to finish their summer with a bang by joining in a stimulating art adventure at “Don’t Mess with Texas, Mess with ART” Family Arts Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 16. During this Family Arts Day, visitors will learn how to use recycled materials to create innovative works of art to take home.

Families are encouraged to explore the museum and learn about the artwork currently on display. “Don’t Mess with Texas, Mess with ART” Family Arts Day is held in conjunction with the current exhibition, Karin Broker: wired, pressed, nailed, which exhibits preprinted materials such as vintage printed metals used in collages and assemblage box constructions. Children are encouraged to examine these exhibits and use similar techniques to create pie pan prints, birdhouses, newspaper collages and more.

Rounding out the fun is a live demonstration at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. by Gator Country Alligator Wildlife Park. Adding to the enjoyment will be face painting and refreshments. As always, Family Arts Day is FREE and open to the public. For more information, call (409) 832-3432 or visit www.amset.org.
