Job Description - Director of Development
The Director will be responsible for developing and implementing the development programs for Musiqa. Under the primary supervision of the Executive Director, the Director's responsibilities include but are not limited to the following tasks:
1. FUNDRAISING - Develop, coordinate, maintain and implement the annual fundraising plan. Research and write grant proposals to local, state and national government agencies as well as local, regional and national foundations. Meet all deadlines for applications and reporting to government agencies and foundations. Develop fundraising letters and appeals; maintain regular correspondence with corporations, foundations, donors, and board members; oversee mailings. Engage in research to identify new corporate, individual, and foundation prospects.Work with staff and boards to develop and organize program related donor campaigns.Help Board of Directors in all phases of fundraising and special events.
2. DATABASE - Maintain and expand Musiqa’s funding database (eTapestry). Generate queries, reports, exports and any other collection data as needed.
3. MAJOR GIFTS/DONOR SUPPORT - Work with Executive Director and Board to develop, coordinate and implement donor recognition program. Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential corporate, individual, foundation and government funders.Produce major donor, board and special category solicitations/support materials with the intent to retain or upgrade gifts when possible. Cultivate donors by producing specialized correspondence, preparing letters of acknowledgment, scheduling and attending in-person visits.Develop and manage Board fundraising capacity.
Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent prior experience.
2-6 years nonprofit fundraising experience, with significant grant writing, experience.
Proven track record of achieving revenue targets and/or a quota
Excellent written communication, research, and organizational skills.
Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage new accounts
Strong partnership-building and event planning skills
Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified non-profit funding base
Strong computer skills and knowledge of data base programs
Interest, enthusiasm, and affinity for fundraising and working with people.
Self-motivated, work well under pressure and be able to handle several projects at one time.
Exercise good judgment and, ideally, a sense of humor.
Other:Part-time Position requires 20-25 hours per week in office. Salaried in mid-$20s.
