ARTPACE ANNOUNCES TEXAS OPEN CALL
FOR THE 2016 INTERNATIONAL ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM

WHO Artpace is a contemporary art center located in downtown San Antonio, Texas, with residencies,
exhibitions, and education programs that nurture the freedom to dream. We support the creative
process and engage audiences with the most innovative art and artists from around the world.

Since 1995, Artpace has welcomed more than 195 artists through its renowned International
Artist-in-Residence (IAIR) program. Three residencies each feature one Texas artist, one national
artist, and one international artist, who are selected by a notable guest curator. In addition to living
in apartments at Artpace, Artists receive a living stipend and materials allowance. Each eight-week
residency culminates in new works of art (which Artpace returns to the artists), an exhibition opening
reception and artists’ dialogue, and a two-month exhibition at Artpace. The mission of this program
is to provide artists with unparalleled resources that allow them to experiment with new ideas and
take provocative risks.

WHAT Artpace’s 2016 Texas Open Call is an official request for applications from artists living and
working in Texas to apply for an opportunity to become the Texas artist
in the 2016 International Artist-In-Residence program. Artists who submit
their work are considered for inclusion on a shortlist that will be reviewed
by Artpace's guest curators in 2015 for the 2016 residencies. The year's
three curators will examine the selected artists' materials and may also
conduct studio visits. Each curator will then select one exceptional Texas
artist to become a 2016 International Artist-in-Residence. Past Texas
International Artists-in-Residence include: Alejandro Diaz (1996), Dario Robleto (2000), Katrina
Moorhead (2005), Hills Snyder (2005), Luz Maria Sanchez (2006), Margarita Cabrera (2008), Sterling
Allen (2009), Devon Dikeou (2011), Texas Prize winner, Jeff Williams (2011), and Clarissa Tossin
(2013).
