The 4th Annual Holga Out of the Box International Call For Entry is now under way with a juror world renowned photojournalist David Burnett. Show us your best Holga image. “Out of the box” is about artistic creativity to produce an image starting with a Holga camera. Not that you have to photograph your Holga - out of the box - with out modifications." . It is open to amateur and professional photographers around the globe that use a Holga camera or an element of it.

Holga Out of the Box opens October 2nd during ArtWalk and continues through November 14, 2014 here at TCC PHOTO |GALLERY located at 207 N. Center St., Longview, TX 75601 and on the web at

David Burnett said this about using the Holga, “The Holga is that extra camera, happily light, compact and always available, that is worth carrying with whatever “real” cameras you might have on the other shoulder. There is always a “Holga Picture” to be made if you look hard enough.”

DAVID BURNETT (born Salt Lake City, Utah 1946)
David learned photography at the Olympus High yearbook, and later shot pictures (mostly sports) at Colorado College where he earned a BA in Poli Sci. He began working as a free lancer for Time, and later Life magazine in the late1960s spending two years covering the War in Vietnam. Following the demise of the weekly Life Magazine , he joined the French photo agency Gamma and subsequently, in 1975 he co-founded Contact Press Images, in New York. His work for newsmagazines in Europe and the US has included politics, sports, and portraiture as well as the news. He has covered every Summer Olympic Games since 1984, as well as the 2002 Winter Games, and photographed every American President since John F Kennedy.

His awards include 'Magazine Photographer of the Year' from the Pictures of the Year Competition, the 'World Press Photo of the Year', and the Robert Capa Gold Medal from the Overseas Press Club. He has produced photographic essays for Time, Fortune, GEO, Paris-Match and ESPN Magazine. He served on the World Press Photo Jury in 1997, 1999, and chaired the jury in 2011. He is the author of two photographic books: “Soul Rebel – An Intimate Portrait of Bob Marley,” and “44 Days : Iran and the Remaking of the World,” with pictures taken during the 1979 Iranian Revolution. He is married to Iris Jacobson Burnett, whose family always wondered how come she ended up marrying a Jewish kid from Utah. His lone cinematic achievement is “The Gefilte Fish Chronicles” a documentary featuring Iris’ big Jewish family, and the traditions surrounding the preparation for the Passover Seder, which has been broadcast on more than 70 PBS stations around the country. The film has been an inspiration for “Gefilte Fish Chronicles — the Musical” - a funny & touching musical show written by Iris and New York songwriter Matty Selman. David calls Newburgh home, but is at home anywhere there is a good story.

We are the only fine art photography gallery in North East Texas, specifically in
Longview, TX. TCC was first a commercial studio, then in 2006 we opened the gallery with the inaugural exhibit of Muhammad Ali, photographs by Sonia Katchian. We were the first US gallery to host the Holga Inspire traveling exhibit in 2009. We have also shown, Dan Burkholder, Dennis Fagan, O. Rufus Lovett, Scott C.
