The Contemporary Austin seeks to hire a full-time Preparator to coordinate the installation and construction of exhibitions for the museum. The Preparator reports to the Director of Exhibitions Production, and assists in the planning and implementation of exhibitions, including ordering tools and materials, coordinating installation schedule, and maintaining the exhibition on a daily basis through regular checks of security, damage, lighting, and cleaning in both of the museum’s locations. This person should have experience in light construction and help oversee seasonal labor in such construction. The Preparator is responsible for art storage spaces, packing and transporting art, and ensures the safety of the art during these projects. Administrative responsibilities include budgeting for supplies and labor, as well as completing purchase orders.
BA in studio art or art history (preferred)
3-5 years of museum/gallery experience as preparator and/or art handler (required)
Experience working with artists (required)
Considerable experience in installation, exhibition coordination of high value artwork(required)
Photoshop, Sketch-Up experience (preferred)
Valid and maintained driver’s license with clean driving record (required)
Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, team environment where time management and organization are critical
Good communication, patience, problem-solving, trouble-shooting skills
