Austin Art in Public Places Panel Vacancy

Art in Public Places Program Seeking Advisory Panel Applicants

The Cultural Arts Division’s Art in Public Places (AIPP) Program is seeking to fill a vacancy on the Art in Public Places Panel. Interested persons may learn more and download the application form from http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/aipp/panelists.htm.

The deadline to submit application materials is 5:00 pm, Friday, September 2, 2011, to the Cultural Arts Division Offices, 201 E. 2nd Street, Austin, Texas 78701.

Members of the AIPP Panel are individuals possessing a visual art background, including professional artists, designers, academic instructors, art gallery or museum professionals or individuals with knowledge of contemporary art.

Panelists’ responsibilities include reviewing artist qualifications and design proposals, serving on artist selection panels, evaluating project parameters, providing input to Artist Calls, participating in art openings and opportunities for outreach into Austin’s art community, and recommending artists to be commissioned or artwork to be purchased in accordance with the City’s Art in Public Places Ordinance.

The Art in Public Places Panel regularly meets monthly and reviews information from program staff, project managers, artists and community representatives to ensure that the Art in Public Places Collection includes high quality works of art that represent the broad range of media, styles, and cultural sensibilities that contribute to Austin's distinctive ambiance. Panelists also participate in a yearly planning retreat to help provide oversight and guidance in terms of the program’s goals and operations.

A Panelist may not receive remuneration for service on the Panel, and must be willing to serve a two-year term (with possible renewal for 2 additional terms) without conflict of interest. Panelists are not eligible to apply for AIPP projects while serving on the Panel.

Questions should be directed to Meghan Turner, Acting AIPP Administrator, at (512) 974-9314 or Meghan.Turner@ci.austin.tx.us.
