Galveston Arts Center Interim Executive Director
The Galveston Arts Center (GAC) is seeking an Interim Executive Director to oversee current activities and responsibilities and guide the organization through a healthy leadership transition.
Mission of the Galveston Arts Center
Believing contemporary art can inspire, engage, provoke and inform the Galveston Arts Center (GAC) presents dynamic and innovative work focusing on professional visual Texan’ artists. As a non-collecting, non-profit museum, the GAC furthers the careers of emerging and mid-career professional artists through the production of quality exhibitions and supporting media. Collaborative, wide-ranging education and outreach programs create a public forum to engage diverse audiences in an exploration of thought-provoking ideas that inform about contemporary art and our experiences in a complex world.
BA or MFA and 5 years experience in non profit administration, preferably visual arts
Grant writing experience
40 hours per week, limited local travel, attendance at evening/weekend functions, attend various community functions and meetings as representative of the GAC
Time management /Organizational skills
Strong verbal and technology communication skills
Compensation, $50k plus benefits, commensurate with experience and skills;
Reside in Galveston, Texas
Maintaining day-to-day operations;
Plan annual calendar including exhibits, education, events and submit with budgets for each.
Managing staff; Supervise volunteers
Write and submit grants on a regular basis
Submit monthly action reports to the Board of Directors
Ensure GAC satisfies existing obligations of on-going projects and grants, working towards on-time and on-budget completions;
Develop and recommending policies to the Executive Board;
Meet with funders to maintain donor relations;
Developing external communications and speaking in public; and
Helping the board explore employee structural options.

Ability to work with staff, Executive Board, Board of Directors and Advisory Committee members;
Create and maintain positive donor and funder relationships;
Create and maintain positive community and media relationships;
Competent fiscal management abilities, including budget, grant, and financial administration;
Excellent written, oral and presentation communication skills;
Efficient and effective organizational and leadership skills;
Project management experience as well as ability to plan and direct day-to-day operations;
Background knowledge of contemporary art and related issues; and,
Reputation for integrity
This position reports directly to the Executive Board of Directors. This position shall be for a period of approximately 6-9 months. Position will be open until filled.
