Join Aurora to Honor Bill Viola at the Aurora Award Dinner on October 5th
Aurora Picture Show is gearing up for its annual Aurora Award Dinner, to be held Saturday, October 5th. Following in its tradition of honoring the most significant media artists of the 20th and 21st century, this year we are thrilled to welcome internationally renowned visual artist Bill Viola as our guest of honor.
As recently described by Art in America, "Bill Viola is the leading artist for enacting transcendent spiritual experience through his video images that break the borderline of still photos and moving pictures. For over 40 years, Viola has been vital in establishing video as a crucial contemporary art form while expanding its scope in terms of content, style, technology and historical reference. With his interests in Eastern and Western art and spiritual traditions-Zen Buddhism, Islamic Sufism and Christian mysticism-Viola's work focuses on the life cycle and sensory perception."
We look forward to an evening that showcases this brilliant artist's body of work. Please join us that night by contributing to the event at one of the levels outlined on the attached form. As you know, the ongoing success of the Aurora Picture Show is predicated on the generosity of its members and your financial support - please come meet Bill Viola and his partner Kira Perov, have an amazing dinner hosted by City Kitchen and experience firsthand yet another way in which Aurora contributes to the internationally recognized cultural fabric of Houston.
Aurora Picture Show, a nationally recognized media arts organization, provides Houston with year-round screenings featuring short works by both established and emerging film, video and new media artists, after-school enrichment programs focused on media literacy, summer filmmaking camps for youth, educational workshops for adults, artist talks and an extensive video library for public use.
Proceeds from this event provide crucial support to these programs; please join us October 5th for a rare opportunity to interact with a great artist and guarantee Aurora's ongoing investment in moving image arts. We know you won't want to miss this one - see you there!
