"Summer in the City" West Ave call for vendors
This request is for potential artisans and creative teams, on behalf of West Ave. in Houston, Texas to participate in a monthly, design and arts oriented sidewalk showcase taking place on June 15, July 20 and August 17, 2013.
Laura Medard and James Phelan are the creative liaisons and facilitators representing the West Ave. Retail Management Office to local and regional creative parties. Our combined experience in the areas of art, architecture, interior design, landscape design, and other activities‐oriented businesses will serve to secure among the best and brightest for encouraging a casual yet sophisticated Saturday afternoon clientele.

All three Summer in the City showcases center on active summer time living and entertaining essentials, customs and whims. We encourage creative displays and products that focus on favorite, local summer activities whether they be indoors or out, daytime or evening. The showcase targets customers seeking a Saturday afternoon outing, and where better than West Ave. where it’s never too haute!

- Please visit West Ave to hav a better understanding of the available areas for you submissions.
- We ask that tablecloths cover typical folding tables.
- Ground floor displays are encouraged to incorporate "market umbrellas" to provide abundant shade.
- We respectfully request that a 42" path be incorporated to allow for ADA wheelchair requirements.
Submission / Event Timeline:
Submit a brief written proposal w/ images of your display that will only to be used for the vendor selection process.
June event deadline = May 31
July event deadline = June 28
August event deadline = July 26
Vendors may submit for more than 1 event, please specify when drafting your proposal. Selections will be made and announced the following week for this free outdoor retail opportunity. Selectees will be notified by phone or e-mail. Required event paperwork will be distributed to selected participants simultaneously.
Paperwork along with images and bios of participating creative parties to be included in local showcase publicity (if not the same as originally submitted materials) should be submitted no later than 10 days before the event to be included in promotional efforts.

Vendors who submit for, and are accepted for more than 1 event, please submit your press materials ASAP. Introductions to the West Ave. Retail Management Office for selected participants will take place the week before each showcase. Showcase display installs begin at 12pm and takedowns begin at 6pm on each event day. Vendors are allowed to remain open after 6pm. Please inquire if you feel that your booth/display may require additional time.
