Lufkin, TX Kids Art Camp!
LUFKIN: The Museum of East Texas is delighted to announce that their 16th annual Art Camp begins May 28th. Classes are available for children ages four to fourteen weekly from June 3 until August 9, except for the week of July 1-5. Sessions are offered in both the morning and afternoon. The morning session is from 9 a.m. until noon and the afternoon session is from 1 to 4 p.m.
During the weeks of May 28-31 and August 12-16, the Museum will host “Wee Art,” a class designed specifically for three-year-olds and a parent, grandparent, or guardian. Participants in Wee Art will delight in this hour and a half morning class that begins the journey to discover the world of art through lines, shapes, textures, and colors. A snack period with stories led by instructor Stanley Bohon provides diversity for young attention spans. This class is from 9:30-11:00 a.m.
Adults are invited to attend classes in July and August, as well. Class offerings for adults include ceramics, drawing, painting, quilting, and crochet. Adult class instructors include Lisa Lalumandier, Melanie Moses, Harlan Neal, and Ann Phifer Reyes. For class dates and times, please visit metlufkin.org.
During the weeks of June 3 through August 9 (excluding July 1-5), four and five-year-olds participate in MultiMedia. This three-hour class for the curious pre-K or kindergartner explores the fun of self-expression, introducing the formal elements of art through a variety of media and processes including: clay, collage, painting, drawing, and sculpture. The group will complete as many projects as possible.
Six-year-old campers are enrolled in ArtSmart. This three-hour class seeks to further nurture the seed of artistry planted in the budding first grade mind by honing introductory skills and developing a basic knowledge of the formal elements of art, incorporating them into a variety of projects from puppetry
and papier mâché to clay and drawing.
Students in the seven to fourteen year-old age group select two of four course offerings per session. Course offerings include acrylics, beads and knots, bookmaking, chalk art, clay, drawing, drawing with scissors, expressive painting, mosaic collage, paper crafts, photography, portraiture, printmaking, quilting, sculpture, fun with tempera, toys and dolls, and watercolor. Detailed course descriptions are available with registration materials.
Art Camp teachers are local and regional professional artists or art educators. Teachers this year include Stanley Bohon, Richard Carnley, Jessica Chaney, Evan Davis, Lisa Lalumandier, Sarah Meads, Rachel Molandes, Melanie Moses, Cassy Otto, Jordan Perry, Barbara Richert, and Agnes Smith.
Course prices range from $25 to $55 per session. Snacks and t-shirts are included in the price, as well as all materials. Scholarships are available through the generosity of the Museum Guild from funds raised through their annual Festival of Trees and through private donations.
