CALL FOR ARTISTS: Artist Designed Bicycle Racks, City of Palm Springs, CA
The Public Arts Commission of the City of Palm Springs, CA, in partnership with the Sustainability Commission, invites artists to apply to design and fabricate colorful, whimsical and imaginative bicycle racks that are most importantly functional, but will also become part of the City's public art collection. The bicycle racks will be installed at various locations throughout the City. This project has been designed to meet the following goals:
To enhance Palm Springs' image as a cultural destination and bicycle-friendly city: a community that regards bicycles as a permanent and important part of the City’s non-motorized transportation plan infrastructure.
To encourage more people to choose cycling as a transportation option.
To weave art into the fabric of our urban infrastructure.
This is an exciting opportunity open to qualified artists. It is anticipated that five winning designs, each by different artists, will be selected and that some designs may be identified for fabrication in limited editions (not to exceed five).
Each selected artist will receive $5,000 for the final design and fabrication per bicycle rack. Selected artists are responsible for delivery of their completed rack to the City of Palm Springs. For instructions on how to apply and to see a complete copy of the Request for Proposals, you may download the attached PDF or visit www.palmspringspublicart.org
All applications must be submitted by June 19, 2013, 5:00pm PST.
