Glenn Twiggs Opening 4/27 (Austin)
APRIL 27TH- MAY 17TH, 2013
Red Space Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of new work by Glenn Twiggs entitled Nuclear Fiction. This exhibition uses installation, found photographs, craft, and altered images to explore the looming history of the atomic bomb.
Please attend the events for Nuclear Fiction: an opening reception April 27th 7:00-10:00pm and an artist's talk May 5th 5:00-6:30pm.
This is a story about the cultural impact of nuclear weapons. It began in 1945 on a calm summer morning in New Mexico. Over the proceeding decades the mystery and misinformation surrounding the transformative and destructive power of radiation slowly gave way to terrible knowledge that the world continues to struggle with. To tell the history of the nuclear bomb is to also speak of the truths and fictions given to us by governments, scientists and policy-makers in the aftermath of World War II continuing through the Cold War and on to the nuclear threats of today. For Nuclear Fiction these stories will be given new life and new context.
